'For the person or persons that hold dominion, can no more combine with the keeping up of majesty the running with harlots drunk or naked about the streets, or the performances of a stage player, or the open violation or contempt of laws passed by themselves than they can combine existence with non-existence'.

- Benedict de Spinoza. Political Treatise. 1677.

on certainty 317

317. This doubt isn’t one of the doubts in our game. (But not as if we chose this game!)

this doubt isn’t one of the doubts in our game –

says who –

and the game –

who defines that?

as for not choosing this game –

this game –

whatever that is supposed to be –

is open to question –

open to doubt

what we face fundamentally –

is the unknown –

we can deal with that –

deal with its uncertainty –

or we can pretend otherwise –

and live in delusion –

and deception

we can choose what game we play –

and thus –

how we play it
