'For the person or persons that hold dominion, can no more combine with the keeping up of majesty the running with harlots drunk or naked about the streets, or the performances of a stage player, or the open violation or contempt of laws passed by themselves than they can combine existence with non-existence'.

- Benedict de Spinoza. Political Treatise. 1677.

Philosophical Grammar 15

15. Geometry no more speaks about cubes than logic does about negation.

It looks as if one could infer from the meaning of negation that “~ ~p” means p.

is there an inference with ‘~ ~ p’ – to p?

this is a question of logic –

and your answer to this question depends on your theory of inference –

the question of inference –

as with any other concept of logic is open to question –

open to doubt – uncertain

yes we play the logic game – as we do the grammar and geometry games –

we live in a culture that finds these games useful –

and codifies them

and we play these games as prescribed

however these games – with all their concepts and operations –

never have been – and are not –

beyond question
