'For the person or persons that hold dominion, can no more combine with the keeping up of majesty the running with harlots drunk or naked about the streets, or the performances of a stage player, or the open violation or contempt of laws passed by themselves than they can combine existence with non-existence'.

- Benedict de Spinoza. Political Treatise. 1677.

on certainty 254

254. Any ‘reasonable’ person behaves like this.

the question is –

can you know how people behave?

can you say with certainty ?

sure – you can take a punt –

we all do –

but there is no certainty in this

and what do you say –

when a different view is proposed?

as for ‘reasonableness’ –

isn’t that just –

a piece of rhetoric –

designed –

to make it look as if –

your view  has –

some basis to it –

other than –

your assertion of it?
