652. Now I can prophesy that men will never throw over the present arithmetical propositions, never say at last they know how the matter stands? Yet would that justify a doubt on our part?

you don’t know –

what propositions men will use in the future –

and you don’t know –

what they will say about how the matter stands

and because you don’t know –

there is doubt
