on certainty 440


440. There is something universal here; not just something personal.



‘I know that behind this door is a landing and the stairway down to the ground floor’

the only value that the claim to know has – is rhetorical

breaking it up into ‘personal’ and ‘universal’ –

is really just about trying to establish –

different kinds of authority for the statement

the only actual authority the statement has –

is the authority of its authorship –

beyond that –

any claim to authority –

or any claim about the basis of some supposed authority –

is just pretense and deception
