27. If, however, one wanted to give something like a rule here, then it would contain the expression “in normal circumstances”. And we recognize normal circumstances but cannot precisely describe them. At most, we can describe a range of abnormal ones.



the idea here is –

if you wanted to rule out a mistake –

in the employment of the rules of calculation –

you would say a mistake is ruled out –

‘in normal circumstances’

there will be no mistake –

in any circumstance –

there are no mistakes in an uncertain reality –

anything we do – any decision we make –

is open to question –

is open to doubt
